Dell offers new machines with Linux Ubuntu 8.04

Dell has announced that is adding a number of laptops and desktop machines with the Linux operating system Ubuntu 8.04 installed.

According to a blog by Anne Camden, the Inspiron 1525, the XPS M1330 and the Inspiron 530 desktop machine are now available with the operating system, which is also known as Hardy Heron.

“Dell spent months in development and testing to deliver more peripheral support – like ATI video graphics, Dell wireless, fingerprint readers, HDMI, Bluetooth and MP3/WMA/WMV,” said Camden.

Available in the U.K. now, the machines also offer the ability to select a language during the first boot process.

“Just a few more steps toward making Linux more accessible by helping to ensure it ‘just works’ right out of the box,” added Camden.

Daniel Judd from Dell added in a further blog that the PC manufacturer was looking to add the XPS M1530 and Studio 15n to the range of PCs using Ubuntu 8.04, in August.

“This is just in time for LinuxWorld where we will participate in a number of the conference sessions. That will be your chance to hear directly about what’s been accomplished over the last year and where we see it going in 2009,” he added.
